Things to do with teenagers in Brisbane
Brisbane with a teenager works best when you leave the city for part of the day and come back to it in the evening. The adrenaline is in the suburbs: karting at the big tracks, the trampoline parks, the bouldering gyms and the ropes course in the bush at the city's edge.
The brainy stuff is in town: escape rooms in the CBD and West End, VR arenas at Newstead, and the science centre, which is more teen-proof than it sounds. For a real climb, the story bridge climb takes younger teens with an adult, and Mt Coot-tha has longer tracks than the lookout suggests.
Water is the Brisbane gap: no surf in the city, but the river has kayak hire at Kangaroo Point and the lagoons at South Bank and Redcliffe are free. Each listing shows the minimum age and the price from.

Questions parents ask
- What is there for teenagers in Brisbane's CBD?
- Escape rooms, the Cultural Centre galleries and science centre at South Bank, the Kangaroo Point cliffs for climbing and kayaking, and the bridge climb. All are within a short walk or ferry ride of each other.
- Is there karting a teenager can do?
- Yes. The outdoor tracks on the city fringe take 10 or 12 year olds in junior karts and let 16 and overs drive the faster ones; the listings show the age and height rules and the session prices.
- Where can teens surf near Brisbane?
- Not in the city. The nearest patrolled surf beaches are on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, about an hour each way, and both have surf schools that take teenagers; see those cities' teen pages.
- What free things do Brisbane teens actually like?
- The South Bank lagoon, the Kangaroo Point cliffs at sunset, Mt Coot-tha's summit track, the skate parks, and the free galleries. The free picks on this page are the teen-rated ones.
