Things to do with teenagers in Adelaide
Adelaide with a teenager is a city of short drives to big things. The adrenaline is on the fringe: karting at the outdoor track, trampoline parks, a treetop ropes course beside the river, and the rooftop climb at the oval.
The brainy stuff is in the city grid: a cluster of escape rooms, VR, the bowling-and-arcade barn and the free museum and gallery, all within a walk of each other. The coast is calm, which is good for paddle boards and a dolphin cruise and less good for surfing; the real waves are an hour south on the Fleurieu.
For a real climb, the hills have graded tracks and waterfalls after rain, and the summit lookout is a proper walk from the gardens. Each listing shows the minimum age and the price from.

Questions parents ask
- What is there for teenagers in Adelaide's CBD?
- Escape rooms, VR, bowling and arcades, the free museum and gallery, the ropes course by the river and the oval climb. The city grid is small enough to walk between them.
- Can a 12 year old do go-karting in Adelaide?
- The outdoor track takes younger teens in junior karts and 16 and overs in the fast ones; the listing shows the age and height rules and the session prices.
- Where can teens surf near Adelaide?
- Not at the city beaches, which are calm. Middleton and the Fleurieu, about an hour south, have surf schools that take teenagers in group lessons.
- What free things do Adelaide teens like?
- The beaches at Glenelg and Henley, the Mount Lofty summit walk, Morialta's waterfalls and climbing areas, the skate parks and the free museum and gallery. The free picks on this page are the teen-rated ones.
