Accessible and sensory-friendly things to do with kids in Brisbane
Brisbane does accessible days well because so much of what families love here is flat, free and council-built: South Bank's lagoon and parklands, the river boardwalks, Roma Street Parkland and the big suburban playgrounds, many of which the council has rebuilt as all-abilities spaces with wheelchair carousels and Liberty swings. The Cultural Centre precinct is one lift ride from the bus and train, and the museum, gallery and science centre each publish sensory maps and run relaxed sessions.
The lagoons at South Bank and Redcliffe have ramped entries; the council's own page says which pools have hoists. What is harder is the bush: Mt Coot-tha's lookout is accessible but most tracks are not, and the island beaches need planning.
Everything on this page is from the venue's or council's own page, with the fact line under each place and a link to the access page it came from.
135 places in Brisbane state access or sensory facts on their own page: 17 step-free · 22 sensory-friendly sessions · 12 accessible toilet · 0 Changing Places · 0 beach wheelchair · 1 pool hoist · 96 all-abilities playgrounds.

Questions parents ask
- Where are Brisbane's best all-abilities playgrounds?
- The council has inclusive playgrounds spread across the suburbs, each with a mix of accessible equipment and sensory play; the playgrounds section lists the ones whose council page names the equipment. South Bank's Riverside Green and several of the big regional parks are the most complete.
- Which museums run sensory-friendly sessions?
- The Queensland Museum, the Gallery of Modern Art and the science centre each run quiet mornings or relaxed sessions and lend sensory kits. Days change each school holidays, so the table on this page links the venue page to check.
- Can we swim at South Bank with a wheelchair?
- The Streets Beach lagoon has a gentle ramped entry and accessible change rooms nearby, and the council states which of its pools have hoists. The water listings here carry what each page says.
- Is public transport accessible with a wheelchair or pram?
- Most CityCat terminals, inner-city stations and buses are step-free, and the ferries have ramps; the Cultural Centre, South Bank and Roma Street are all easy. Check the transport authority's page for the station you need.
