Bribie Island Butterfly House

Families' Pick 2026 · Brisbane: picked by the Funtivities team as a standout for families in Brisbane.

Last updated October 2026

Volunteer-run butterfly house on Bribie Island where kids walk among hundreds of live butterflies; open Wednesdays and Sundays 9am-3pm.

Bribie Island Butterfly House is a volunteer-run butterfly sanctuary in Bongaree, where visitors walk among hundreds of live butterflies (500 to 1,000 when fully stocked) and they may land on you. Volunteer guides called Flight Attendants give short tours, then you can wander at your own pace; allow about an hour. It is open Wednesdays and Sundays only, 9am to 3pm, including school holidays. Mornings are busiest, so early afternoon is quieter. Entry is 12 dollars for adults, 10 dollars concession, 7 dollars for children 4 to 15 and 34 dollars for a family (2 adults and 2 children). Tickets are bought at the ticket office, no booking needed; groups book by appointment. The venue is wheelchair and pram friendly, with an undercover seating area, toilets including an accessible toilet, and a coin-operated coffee machine. It may close without notice in severe thunderstorms or wet weather. Wearing bright colours like red may attract butterflies. Details as of October 2026.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
