Cathedral Fig Tree, Danbulla National Park
Last updated October 2026
The cathedral fig tree in Danbulla National Park, on the Atherton Tableland about 70 km (1.5 hours) from Cairns, is a 500-year-old fig named for the cathedral-like formation of its roots, with a crown nearly 50 m tall. A 300 m return boardwalk (Grade 2, allow 10 minutes) circles the tree, and a sign near its base explains the tree. Stay on the boardwalk. The tree is 1.4 km from the eastern entrance of Danbulla Road; most of the road is unsealed but it is accessible to all vehicles. There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities. Open 24 hours.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
