Centenary Lakes Nature Play Space

Council nature play space and playground beside Freshwater Lake in the Botanic Gardens' Centenary Lakes precinct, off Greenslopes Street, Edge Hill.

Centenary Lakes Nature Play is a Cairns Regional Council nature play space in the Centenary Lakes precinct of the Cairns Botanic Gardens, which council describes as very popular. The precinct's Freshwater Lake has sheltered picnic sites, free barbecues, a children's playground and public toilets, and can be reached by road from Greenslopes Street or on foot along the Rainforest Boardwalk from the main gardens; the lake is home to magpie geese, ducks, storks, cormorants, frogs, fish and turtles, and fishing is not permitted. Council's Botanic Gardens and Centenary Lakes Masterplan (published October 2025) includes a future renewal of the Nature Play area using more durable materials, with proposed interactive, music, sensory, balancing and climbing activities and a refreshed fairy garden; timing is subject to future budgets and no works dates are published as of October 2026. Council's pages do not list opening hours or age guidance for the play space.
