Free council foreshore precinct in Cairns City with a lifeguarded salt water lagoon, Muddy's splash playground, two more playgrounds, skate plaza and free BBQs.

The Cairns Esplanade is a council-run foreshore parkland in Cairns City where all recreational facilities are free. The Lagoon is a 4,800 square metre salt water pool monitored by lifeguards, open Thursday to Tuesday 6am to 9pm and Wednesday noon to 9pm; children must be supervised by an adult at all times, and no inflatables, toys, diving or running are allowed. It is wheelchair accessible with an aquatic wheelchair available. There are three free playgrounds: Muddy's Playground (a splash playground with water play, flying fox, rope bridge, slides and play houses, open daily 9am to 7pm, with sections closed for maintenance on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings until noon), Fun Ship Playground and Healing Gardens Playground. The Northern Esplanade Activity Precinct opposite Cairns Hospital has a skate plaza, beach volleyball courts. Free electric BBQs are open 6am to 9pm, with public toilets, showers, lockers and parking nearby.
