Free lifeguarded saltwater swimming lagoon on the Cairns Esplanade, open Thu-Tue 6am-9pm and Wed from midday.

The Cairns Esplanade Lagoon is a free 4,800 square metre saltwater swimming pool on the Esplanade, run by Cairns Regional Council. The pool is filled with filtered saltwater from Trinity Inlet, which the council says gives year-round swimming free from stingers and crocodiles. Lifeguards are on duty whenever the pool is open. Hours are Thursday to Tuesday 6am to 9pm and Wednesday midday to 9pm, when it is closed for cleaning until noon; public holidays are 6am to 9pm. Toilets and showers are in the amenities block beside the lagoon, lawns and large fig trees surround the pool, and the council lists the site as wheelchair accessible.
