Cairns Museum is in the School of Arts building at 105 Lake Street, with the entrance on Shields Street. It is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. Admission is $15 for adults, $6 for children under 14, $12 concession and $30 for a family of two adults and two kids; members enter free (as of October 2026). The museum has four permanent galleries and a changing ground-floor gallery. For children it offers a Super Sleuth Challenge, an object scavenger hunt, a kids audio trail (bring your own headphones), an activity trail, a photography trail and a kids activity table, with worksheets at the information desk. The building is pram and stroller friendly with lift access to all levels and a changing table in the ground-floor restroom. School holiday programs cater to children of all ages; the January Nature Art Workshops cost $7 (free for members), booked through TryBooking.
