Free council botanic gardens on Collins Avenue, Edge Hill, open daily, with cafe, visitor centre and fortnightly nature programs for under-fives.

Cairns Botanic Gardens is a free, council-run tropical garden on Collins Avenue, Edge Hill. Flecker Gardens and the conservatory open daily 7.30am to 5.30pm (weather permitting); other areas, including Centenary Lakes, are open around the clock. The Visitor Centre at 64 Collins Avenue opens 8.30am to 4pm weekdays and 9.30am to 2pm weekends and public holidays; the TANK sixty four cafe next door opens 7am to 3pm daily. Some Flecker Garden paths are unsuitable for prams; the rest is fully accessible. On-street parking is on Collins Avenue and Greenslopes Street. Little Taccas is a fortnightly Thursday program (10am to noon) for under-fives with craft, storytelling and garden walks; bookings are essential, capped at 15, and Term 4 2026 was full as of October 2026. Little Sprouts runs fortnightly in school terms at The Green Space, Edge Hill, for children who have turned four, booked online. No pets. Phone 4032 6650.
