Last updated October 2026

The Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on Fitzroy Island is a volunteer-run, non-profit centre that cares for sick and injured sea turtles until they can be released back into the ocean. Visitors meet the turtles on a 30-minute Turtle Talk with a guide, learning about the centre's history and each turtle's recovery. Talks run Wednesday to Sunday at 2:15pm and 2:45pm for up to 15 guests, and are only for people staying at Fitzroy Island Resort or travelling on the Fitzroy Flyer, the resort's 45-minute ferry from Marlin Marina in Cairns. Cost is $20 adults, $12 children 4-13 and infants free; children 12 and under must be with an adult. Booking ahead is recommended. Meet at the centre 5 minutes before the talk.
