Four Mile Beach

Families' Pick 2026 · Cairns: picked by the Funtivities team as a standout for families in Cairns.

Last updated October 2026

Patrolled Port Douglas beach with a stinger enclosure from about November to May, a playground, BBQs and showers.

Four Mile Beach is Port Douglas's main beach, patrolled by lifeguards and the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club. Douglas Shire Council puts a swimming enclosure in the water at Four Mile Beach during marine stinger season, typically November to May. Council says stinger enclosures give a high degree of protection against box jellyfish but are not 100 percent stinger proof, and beaches may close when stingers are present. Surf Life Saving's Beachsafe lists patrols from 9am to 5pm (lifeguards Monday to Saturday and the surf club on Sunday in the week checked) and warns of bluebottles, box jellyfish, Irukandji and crocodiles. Swim between the red and yellow flags. Beachsafe lists parking, shade, a playground, picnic areas, BBQs, a cafe and kiosk, showers and toilets including accessible toilets. A Freewheeler beach wheelchair can be borrowed free from the lifeguard hut after signing an indemnity form. As of October 2026.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
