Palm Cove Beach
Last updated August 2026
Unlike central Cairns, Palm Cove's beach is genuinely swimmable for most of the year - outside stinger season (June-September) the whole beach is safe without a stinger suit, calm and shallow near the shore. During stinger season (October-May) a netted enclosure is maintained on the beach with lifeguards on duty, so kids can still swim safely inside the net. The esplanade itself is flat, paved and pram-friendly, lined with shade, a walking/bike path, BBQs and a playground. What to Bring Swimmers, sun protection A full-body stinger suit if visiting Oct-May and wanting to swim outside the net (or just stay inside it) Best Age Range All ages - small waves and shallow entry make it genuinely toddler-friendly, especially outside stinger season. Good to Know Free, no booking. Check which stinger-net enclosure is active and patrolled before swimming during stinger season (Oct-May).
