Ellis Beach

Last updated October 2026

Ellis Beach is a Cairns Regional Council beach north of Cairns on the Captain Cook Highway. The council says it has a stinger net enclosure and is patrolled by Surf Lifesavers between 9am and 5pm during the marine stinger season (November to May). The shady foreshore has free electric barbecues and there is a council toilet block. A council beach wheelchair and all-access mat can be borrowed free from the lifeguards (bring a support person to help). Stinger season generally runs November to May and the nets are not 100 percent stinger proof; this is crocodile country, so swim only inside the net when lifesavers are on duty. Within a short walk: Ellis Beach Bar & Grill (about 80 m).

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 22 October 2026.
