Ellis Beach Surf Life Saving Club
Last updated October 2026
Family surf life saving club on the Captain Cook Highway at Ellis Beach, north of Cairns. Its Nippers program teaches children aged 5 to 13 surf safety and awareness, held during the dry season (May to October) on Sunday mornings from 9am to 11am. Under 6s and Under 7s ('Green Caps') do play-based activities, wading, run-wade-runs and beach flags, sprints and relays; older groups move on to bodyboarding, dolphin diving, nipper board paddling, surf swimming and body surfing, learning about rips, beach dangers and how to signal for help. Children must be at least five as at 30 September and complete a Preliminary Skills evaluation before the season, which may include a pool swim and run-swim-run.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
