The City of Gold Coast describes Mermaid Beach as generally much quieter than its busy neighbours Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, as most of the beach is fronted by homes and units. Lifeguards patrol Tower 26 (Montana Avenue, near Mermaid Beach Surf Lifesaving Club) between 8am and 5pm every day all year round, and Tower 25 (Hilda Street) between 8am and 5pm every day between November and April and during school holidays. Swim between the red and yellow flags. Ken Mansbridge Park on the beachfront has tables and shelters. Council warns to avoid steep and unstable sand scarps. The beach has a dog prohibited area. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap) are Mermaid Beach Pharmacy, a pharmacy (about 370 m) and Lucky Mermaid, a newsagent (about 390 m).
