Kirra Beach

Last updated August 2026

Kirra's curved shape creates naturally calm, protected pockets of water that make it one of the safest swimming beaches on the southern Gold Coast - genuinely gentler than most nearby breaks. At low tide, rock platforms at each end expose small tidal pools that kids can explore for hermit crabs and tiny fish, and a sandbank toward the southern end sometimes forms a sheltered swimming hole depending on the tide. Patrolled by lifeguards daily, November-April. What to Bring Reef shoes if exploring the rock pools Swimmers and sun protection A bucket for rock-pool exploring Best Age Range All ages - the calm main beach suits toddlers; the rock pools are a hit with primary-school-aged kids. Good to Know Free, no booking. Nearby parkland has toilets, BBQs, picnic tables, shade and showers, plus beachfront cafes. Nearby Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks are a short walk/drive further south for a different stretch of coast.
