Main Beach

Last updated October 2026

Main Beach lies between Surfers Paradise to the south and The Spit to the north; the City of Gold Coast calls it Southport's closest surf beach. Lifeguards patrol Tower 39 (Breaker Street) and Tower 40 (Macarthur Parade, near Southport Surf Life Saving Club) between 8am and 5pm every day all year round. Swim between the red and yellow flags. Beachfront parklands have toilets, barbecues, tables, shade structures, playgrounds and beach showers. There is limited parking at the Southport Surf Club and on-street parking nearby. The beach has a dog prohibited area, and dogs are not allowed within 200 metres of the flags. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap) are Sea Urchin Kitchen & Bar (about 270 m), 7-Eleven, a convenience store (about 260 m) and Subway, a takeaway (about 250 m).
