Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club

Family-oriented surf life saving club at Mermaid Beach with a Nippers junior program for Under 6 to Under 14 (children must turn 5 by 30 September). Nippers learn rip identification, surf skills such as body surfing and board work, and beach disciplines like flags and sprints. The 2026/27 season starts Sunday 27 September and runs to Sunday 7 March, with a short Christmas break. Nipper Sundays start at 8.15am at the park opposite the club and finish around 10-10.30am, followed by a Nippers BBQ. Come and Try days are held on three October Sundays. Each Nipper needs a pool proficiency and a compulsory pink rashie ($25); parents on the beach join as part of a family membership. Play On! vouchers can be used, and Under 6s and 7s get $50 off. The club also runs Merlina's beachfront restaurant.
