Fingal Beach Surf Life Saving Club

Fingal Beach Surf Life Saving Club has protected Fingal Beach at Port Stephens since 1964. Its Nippers program is for children aged 5-13, in age groups U6 to U14, and runs on Sunday mornings from October to March. Kids arrive before 9am to sign in, activities start at 9:30am and usually finish around 11am, followed by the Nippers BBQ. Sessions include surf awareness and safety games, age-appropriate ocean swims, board paddling, beach sprints and flags, and team challenges. Nippers is not a learn-to-swim program; each child completes a preliminary skills evaluation (swim and float) before water activities. At least one parent or guardian joins the club and stays on the beach. The club also runs Starfish Nippers, a modified program for young people aged 6 and over with a disability, alongside regular Nippers.
