Burleigh Beach's biggest advantage for families is shelter: the stretch in front of Mowbray Park has gentle, protected waves even when other Gold Coast beaches are blown out, making it one of the more forgiving spots for younger swimmers. Patrolled swimming areas sit at Lifeguard Towers 18, 19 and 20 (daily, 8am-5pm), in front of the Burleigh Heads Mowbray Park and North Burleigh Surf Life Saving Clubs.
