Maria Island National Park
Last updated October 2026
Maria Island, off Tasmania's east coast, is a national park reached only by passenger ferry from Triabunna; there are no cars, shops or cafes on the island, so bring food and water. Visitors explore on foot or by bike from Darlington, a World Heritage convict site. The easy Darlington Township Walk is 1 km (half to 2 hours, Grade 2) past the convict buildings, Coffee Palace Museum and ruins. Wildlife is easy to see, including wombats, Tasmanian devils, kangaroos, pademelons and Cape Barren geese. Facilities include toilets, barbecues, picnic areas and a campground. A Tasmanian parks pass is needed and can be added when booking the ferry.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
