Little Howrah Beach

Last updated October 2026

Little Howrah Beach is a small sheltered beach on the Derwent, separated from the main Howrah Beach by a small rocky spit. The council says it is sheltered from large ocean swells by Howrah Point, the South Arm Peninsula and Bruny Island, but can be exposed to swells travelling up the Derwent River during stormy weather. Family picnics and water activities are listed as popular, and it is reached via Howrah Road. The council page lists no lifesaver patrol. Dogs are not permitted on the beach. Avoid swimming in the Derwent for two days after heavy rain and near stormwater pipes. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap): Atmosfire (cafe, about 260 m), Sunshine Centre Store (convenience store, about 260 m) and OTR (convenience store, about 280 m).
