Lake Barrine, Crater Lakes National Park

Last updated October 2026

Lake Barrine is a crater lake surrounded by World Heritage rainforest in Crater Lakes National Park, about 60 km from Cairns up the Gillies Range Road. A short stroll from the day-use area, the twin kauris walk (160 m return, Grade 1, about 10 minutes) is a wheelchair-accessible track to the base of two bull kauri pines 45 m tall. The longer Lake Barrine circuit track is 5 km (Grade 3, allow 2 hours). The day-use area has picnic tables and flush toilets; bins are not provided, so take rubbish home. You can swim and paddle a canoe or kayak, taking care when the boat cruises are running. The privately owned teahouse sells meals and runs the boat cruises. Open 24 hours. Lake Barrine Tea House Restaurant is about 100 m from the car park.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
