Lake Tinaroo (Tinaroo Falls Dam) fishing
Last updated October 2026
Lake Tinaroo, the lake formed by Tinaroo Falls Dam on the Barron River about 14 km north-east of Atherton, is a stocked fishing dam with barramundi and sooty grunter. Anyone 18 or over needs a Stocked Impoundment Permit to line fish ($13.60 a week or $64.58 a year, bought online, by phone on 1300 575 359 or at Queensland Australia Post outlets); children and teenagers under 18 do not need one. Fishing from the shore on or near the dam wall is not allowed. Swimming, kayaking and sailing are permitted outside the signed exclusion zones, and boats must stay at least 200 m from the dam wall. Sunwater lists boat ramps, picnic areas, toilets, barbecues and camping at the dam. The Tinaroo Picnic Area has a playground about 50 m away.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
