Malanda Falls Conservation Park
Last updated October 2026
Malanda Falls tumble over basalt rock formed by an ancient lava flow, on the Malanda-Atherton Road 1 km from Malanda on the Atherton Tableland. Two short walks start here. The Tulip oak walk (1 km return, easy, allow 35 minutes) starts near the toilet block and stops at viewing areas over the North Johnstone River, with signs about Ngadjon-Jii culture. The Rainforest walk (1.5 km return, easy, allow 45 minutes) starts across the road from the car park and passes labelled rainforest trees. Look for platypus in the river at dawn and dusk, and Lumholtz's tree-kangaroos resting in branches. The council's Malanda Falls Scenic Reserve next door has toilets, picnic tables, shelters and barbecues. There are no wheelchair-accessible facilities. Malanda Falls Cafe is about 160 m from the falls.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
