Coogee is calmer and more sheltered than most eastern-suburbs beaches, which is why it's a favourite for families over flashier Bondi. At the southern end there's a small enclosed pool ideal for little kids, and Giles Baths (the "bogey hole") at the northern end is a natural rock pool good for supervised paddling. Two playgrounds nearby: Grant Reserve's is shaped like a boat moored to a jetty with climbing ropes and a sandstone sundial with animal carvings; the Stan Windon Memorial Playground has slides, a balance beam and a climbing pyramid net.
