Dawn Fraser Baths
Last updated October 2026
Dawn Fraser Baths is a heritage-listed tidal saltwater harbour pool in Balmain, opened in 1882 and described by Inner West Council as Australia's oldest surviving public tidal baths. It has a 50m lap swimming area and a child-friendly beach area that appears at low tide; at high tide the beach is not available and may be too deep for small children. There are changerooms with showers, an accessible changeroom and two family changerooms. It opens from October to Easter. Entry is $7.50 for adults, $4.30 for children 5-16, and free for under-5s with a paying adult. The baths do not open when the Beachwatch harbour bulletin shows red. Within a short walk are The Riverview (pub, about 250 m) and The hanging ladder (restaurant, about 340 m).
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 22 October 2026.
