Go Ride A Wave, which acquired Gold Coast Surf Academy, runs learn-to-surf lessons at Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. At Broadbeach, 2-hour beginner lessons run daily at 10am and 1pm from its van in the car park beside Kurrawa Surf Life Saving Club on Old Burleigh Road, in waist-deep water, with a rash shirt or wetsuit and a soft surfboard included. The Surfers Paradise shop is in Cavill Mall, and riders should arrive 15 minutes early. For kids aged 5 to 12, the SurfGroms program at Broadbeach teaches surfing plus ocean awareness and beach safety. It runs as a 4-day intensive in school holidays (Monday to Thursday) or a weekly term program on Saturdays or Sundays, with 1.5-hour sessions from 8am.
