Freshwater is part of the Manly-Freshwater National and World Surfing Reserve, and the council describes it as a good family beach with good swimming conditions. Council lifeguards patrol Freshwater Beach from the last weekend in August until late May, and Freshwater SLSC volunteers patrol on weekends and public holidays from 8:45am to 5pm (6pm in high summer) between 26 September 2026 and 26 April 2027. Council lifeguards patrol Freshwater from the last weekend in August until late May, and volunteer lifesavers patrol from September to April; swim between the flags. There is an accessible playground and a playground at the southern end, plus permit or pay-and-display parking with designated disabled spaces. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap) are The Pocket Freshwater (cafe, about 160 m), Pilu Baretto (cafe, about 190 m), Pilu at Freshwater (restaurant, about 190 m).
