It is one of three Newcastle beaches patrolled all year round. Council lifeguard hours: 8am-4.30pm from 1 July to 25 September 2026; 9am-5.30pm from 26 September to 1 November; 7am-5.30pm from 2 November 2026 to 21 March 2027 (Sundays 9am-5.30pm); 9am-5.30pm from 22 March to 26 April 2027; then 8am-4.30pm through winter. Surf life saving club volunteers also patrol on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027. Free timed parking is available; the change rooms open only in season. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap): Blue Door Kiosk (cafe, about 250 m), Swell (cafe, about 260 m) and Merewether Surf House (restaurant, about 370 m).
