Bar Beach
Last updated October 2026
Newcastle surf beach with a natural rock pool in the northern corner that is popular with families, daily lifeguards and free parking.
Bar Beach is a City of Newcastle surf beach with views of the beaches and headlands to the south. For families, the main draw is the natural rock pool tucked into the northern corner of the beach, which the council calls a favourite spot for families. The beach is patrolled by council lifeguards, listed on the council page as on duty 9am to 5:30pm every day (as of October 2026); swim between the red and yellow flags. The council's beach page also shows live swimming-safety, crowd and surf ratings that are updated through the day. There is ample free parking. The beach is free to visit.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
