Bancoora Beach

Last updated October 2026

Bancoora Beach is an ocean surf beach at Breamlea, between Torquay and Barwon Heads, named after the SS Bancoora, which ran aground here in 1891. Bancoora Surf Life Saving Club volunteers patrol the beach on weekends and public holidays from late November to late April, and lifeguards patrol on weekdays from late December to Australia Day. In the 2025-26 season patrol hours were 12pm-5pm from 15 November to 21 December, 12pm-6pm from 22 December to 22 February, and 12pm-5pm from 23 February to 19 April. This is a surf beach: swim only at patrol times, between the red and yellow flags. The club runs Mozzies and Nippers beach-safety programs for children on Sunday mornings from December to February. OpenStreetMap shows public toilets and showers about 250 m from the beach; no cafes or shops are mapped within 400 m.
