Avalon Beach

Avalon is a surf beach about 500 m long, bordered by 60 m sandstone cliffs. The council notes two shifting beach rips and permanent rips against the rocks at each end. Avalon Rockpool, with a toddler pool, is at the southern end. Council lifeguards patrol from the last weekend of September until the last weekend of April, every day 9am-5pm and longer in the summer peak, and volunteer lifesavers set up the flags each weekend and public holiday; swim between the flags. The council lists a playground, public amenities, a skate bowl and pay-and-display parking off Barrenjoey Road at the southern end. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap) are Lovat (cafe, about 130 m), Chillbar (ice cream shop, about 270 m), Reddy Express (convenience store, about 240 m) and Woolworths Metro (supermarket, about 260 m), plus several restaurants.
