Arve Falls walk, Hartz Mountains National Park
Last updated October 2026
An easy Grade 2 walk of 1 km and about 20 minutes return in Hartz Mountains National Park, 1.5 hours' drive south-west of Hobart via Geeveston and Arve Road. The track follows the creek through sub-alpine plants, wildflowers and twisted snow gums to a staircase and viewing platform above the falls, which drop over the edge of the plateau. The drop is considerable, so supervise children. Other easy walks nearby are Waratah Lookout (300 metres, 5 minutes) and Lake Osborne (2 km, 45 minutes). The Waratah Lookout area has water and a picnic shelter, and the Hartz visitor shelter at the end of the road has water, picnic tables and accessible toilets. There are no rangers based in the park; in snow, do not drive on without chains. A parks pass is needed.
