Woodlands Historic Park
Last updated October 2026
A Parks Victoria park 22 km north of Melbourne's CBD that keeps a landscape similar to what early settlers found, including a homestead built from one of Australia's first prefabricated kit houses (1840s) and Aboriginal scarred trees. The fenced Eastern Barred Bandicoot Sanctuary protects wildlife (close the gates behind you). Spend an easy hour on the Murrup Gurrong Yan (Spiritual Creek Walk) circuit, follow the billabongs of the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, or climb the Gellibrand Hill Walk for views of the city, the bay and Melbourne Airport. Main shared trails are flat, wide and gravel. The Somerton Road Picnic Area is a popular entry, and it and the Homestead have accessible toilets.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
