The Crystal Caves at 69 Main Street, Atherton, is a man-made cave museum built by René Boissevain to display more than 600 crystals, gemstones and fossils. Visitors take a self-guided tour with a headlamp through tunnels and grottos and can touch and photograph the specimens; the website recommends allowing at least two hours. There is a Fairytale chamber, a Krystal Kids Activity Book, a family room, a sandpit and a giant blackboard, plus an optional Crack a Geode experience. As of October 2026 entry is $25 for adults (17 and over), $12.50 for children aged 6 to 16, $65 for a family of two adults and two children and $20 concession; children 5 and under enter free. Open 9am to 5pm daily, last entry 4pm, closed on six public holidays. Walk-ins are welcome, booking is optional, and parking is free.
