Rainforestation Nature Park is a 40-hectare wildlife and cultural experience located in the heart of the Kuranda rainforest, about 25 minutes northwest of Cairns. The park combines native Australian wildlife encounters, Aboriginal cultural experiences, and World War II historical displays in a natural rainforest setting. Visitors can hand-feed kangaroos and wallabies, see crocodiles, snakes and other native animals up close, and experience traditional Aboriginal performances including didgeridoo playing and boomerang demonstrations. The park also features Army Duck amphibious vehicle tours through the rainforest and lake, plus a collection of vintage Army vehicles and memorabilia. **What to Bring** Comfortable walking shoes for uneven rainforest paths. Hat and sunscreen for open areas. Camera for wildlife photos. Small bag or backpack for personal items during Army Duck tour. **Best Age Range** Best for ages 4-12 who enjoy hands-on animal encounters and aren't fazed by larger animals like cassowaries. Toddlers may find some animals intimidating while teens might prefer more adventurous activities. **Good to Know** Free parking on site with coach and car spaces available. Open daily but Army Duck tours run on a schedule so check times. On-site café serves light meals and drinks. Some paths are unsealed and can be muddy after rain. **Nearby** Kuranda Scenic Railway station is walking distance for the scenic train ride back to Cairns. Kuranda village markets and butterfly sanctuary are also within easy walking distance for a full day out. **Tips From Other Parents** Arrive early to avoid tour groups and have more one-on-one time with the kangaroos. Kids love the Army Duck tour but sit towards the back if anyone gets carsick on winding paths. Bring hand sanitizer as there's lots of animal contact.
