Newcastle Memorial Walk
Last updated October 2026
Free 24-hour clifftop memorial bridge walk with ocean views, linking Strzelecki Lookout to the Bathers Way.
A clifftop walkway opened in 2015 for the centenary of the Anzac landing, made from 64 tonnes of stainless steel and lined with steel soldier silhouettes and the names of almost 11,000 Hunter men and women who enlisted in World War I. The first section is a 160-metre bridge from Strzelecki Lookout to a viewing platform; the second is a stairway down to the Bathers Way coastal walk between Nobbys and Merewether beaches. The path is lit after dark and open 24 hours, seven days. It is free to visit, as of October 2026.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 14 October 2026.
