Historic ocean baths on Shortland Esplanade with an Art Deco pavilion, between Newcastle Beach and Nobbys. City of Newcastle says the baths are free and open year round, subject to maintenance, and close every Wednesday for cleaning. Change rooms open daily from 5.30am and council lists seasonal lifeguard hours on its ocean baths page. Facilities include showers, food and refreshments and a car park, and the site welcomes people with access needs, as of October 2026.
