A city beach on Shortland Esplanade, close to cafes, beach kiosks and the Newcastle Mall, with Newcastle Ocean Baths a short walk north along the Bathers Way. Visit Newcastle lists volleyball nets, change rooms, showers, a picnic area and a kiosk, with light rail and bus access. City of Newcastle lifeguards patrol from 26 September 2026 to 26 April 2027: 9am to 5.30pm until 1 November, then 7am to 5.30pm (Sundays from 9am) until 21 March 2027. Surf club volunteers patrol on weekends and public holidays. Free, as of October 2026.
