Go Ride A Wave is a surf school founded in Anglesea in 1987 that runs surf lessons, surf and beach hire and group activities from its Torquay shop, which has showers, toilets and change rooms. Lessons start at the shop at least 15 minutes before the start time, where students are given a full-length wetsuit and a soft beginner surfboard and walk to the beach; after a safety briefing on the sand, almost all lessons run in waist-deep water with an instructor helping everyone stand up. For children aged 5 to 12, the SurfGroms program runs as a 4-day school holiday intensive (Monday to Thursday) or a weekly term program on Saturdays or Sundays over 4 weeks, each with four 1.5-hour lessons, board, wetsuit, surf safety and a starter pack.
