Historic 1897 market hall in Fremantle with 170+ food and craft stalls, buskers and Big Red the kangaroo; free entry Friday to Sunday.

Fremantle Markets has run in its heritage hall on South Terrace since 1897 and has more than 170 traders selling street food, fresh produce, fashion, art, gifts and locally made goods. Entry is free. Kids can have their photo taken with Big Red, a 2.1-metre tribute to the largest red kangaroo on record, and watch buskers and live performers, especially on weekends. The markets also run seasonal events and family activities through the year, and a self-guided audio tour of about 40 minutes. The markets say they are family friendly but can get crowded at peak weekend times, so keep young children close. It is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday public holidays: the Yard (food area) from 8am to 6pm and the Hall from 9am to 6pm. It is closed Christmas Day 2026 and Australia Day 2027. The markets are about a 10-minute walk from Fremantle train station, with public car parks and street parking nearby. Accessible routes run through the main areas and a wheelchair is available. Dogs are not allowed. Details as of October 2026.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
