The Calyx is a glasshouse-style exhibition space in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, off Mrs Macquaries Road, with one of the largest living green walls in the Southern Hemisphere. Its current exhibition, Alchemy of a Rainforest, displays more than 18,000 rare and unusual tropical and subtropical rainforest plants under a canopy made from recycled materials, with sculptures of seeds, flowers, fungi and butterflies made from repurposed plastic and an oversized walk-through Satin Bowerbird's bower with rainforest sound art. It is open daily from 10am to 4pm and entry is by donation. The Calyx is also hired for private events, so it closes on some days; the Garden lists many full or partial closures through October 2026, so check before visiting. The Leaf Department kiosk inside serves coffee, sandwiches and snacks from 8am to 4pm daily.
