Tamarama SLSC has run Nippers for U6 to U14 for over 50 years. Nippers learn respect for the ocean, water safety and physical skills, progressing through surf awareness, board paddling, surf swimming, rescues with tubes and boards, CPR and first aid, and graduate in U14 with the Surf Rescue Certificate. Sessions run on Sunday mornings from 9am for children aged five to 13 (as at 30 September), from 18 October 2026 to 21 March 2027. It is a smaller Nipper group of about 130-160 members. A pre-season swimming proficiency is held at the UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre, and at least one parent per family joins as a Nipper parent. For 2026-27 the U6 to U9 age groups are full. The registration fee includes a hi-vis singlet, Nipper shirt and age group cap.
