Southport Surf Life Saving Club

Last updated October 2026

Surf life saving club on Main Beach, established in 1924 and one of the first clubs in Queensland to set up a junior activities section; it has over 300 Nippers. The Nipper program is for children aged five to thirteen, teaching beach and water skills and many aspects of surf lifesaving. Nipper days are held every Sunday from 7:30am, October to March, with a break of a few weeks over the Christmas school holidays. A preliminary pool evaluation must be completed each season before starting, and paperwork must be submitted by the Friday before the first Sunday. Places fill quickly. The club hires a limited number of boards to nippers. The club also runs a supporters club restaurant and the heritage-listed Main Beach Pavilion cafe.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
