Smiths Beach

Last updated October 2026

Smiths Beach is a 1 km south-west-facing surf beach on Phillip Island that Bass Coast Shire describes as popular with families and surfers, with waves for beginners to advanced riders and swimmers. At low tide you can explore rock pools at both ends, and the larger pools are good for snorkelling. Woolamai Beach Surf Life Saving Club patrols Smiths Beach from 27 December to 25 January, and lifesavers are only on duty when the red and yellow flags are up. The council lists toilets including an accessible toilet, change rooms, cold-water outdoor showers, a sealed car park with accessible spaces and a wheelchair-friendly ramp to the beach; the local store sells food, drinks and coffee. Within a short walk (OpenStreetMap): Island Surfboards (sports shop, about 230 m).
