Old Hobart Town Historical Model Village

Last updated October 2026

A handmade model of 1820s Hobart in Richmond, with 60 buildings, 500 figurines and a search challenge for kids.

Old Hobart Town is a handmade model village in Richmond showing Hobart as it was in the 1820s, built from historical plans by Andrew and John Quick over three years. It has more than 60 buildings and 500 hand-crafted figurines, with bonsai trees and real gardens around it. Visitors get a hand-drawn map and walk the model's streets, comparing them with modern Hobart. The site says children like hunting for the hidden scenes, and a search challenge is given to interested children. There is a visitor centre, gift shop and toilets, umbrellas are provided for sun and rain, and all facilities are wheelchair accessible. As of October 2026 entry is $20 for adults, $8 for children 5-17, $12 for students, $50 for a family (2 adults and 3 children under 17), and free for children under 5. It is open 9am to 5pm every day. Group bookings can be arranged by phone or email.

Facts checked against the venue's own website on 17 October 2026.
