Firefighting museum in Penrith with heritage fire engines and a Junior Firefighter play zone; child $8.50, family $40.

The Museum of Fire at 1 Museum Drive, Penrith covers the history of fire and firefighting, with permanent exhibits, a heritage fleet of fire engines and a gallery of temporary displays. The Junior Firefighter zone has interactive fire engines to climb in, fire safety activities, puzzles, books and toys; the heritage vehicles cannot be touched or climbed. Kids can pick up an Eye Spy activity card on arrival to earn a small prize. It opens 9:30am to 4:30pm daily, closed Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Tickets are bought on the day at the museum shop: child (2-17) $8.50, adult $17, family $40, under 2 free. Fire engine rides cost $4.50 on scheduled days, subject to volunteers. Quiet Mornings run the first Monday of each month, 9:30am to 10:30am, with sounds and lights turned off. Access is single level.
