Karkarook Park
Last updated October 2026
A Parks Victoria park in Heatherton built around a 15-hectare former sand-mine lake, stocked by the Victorian Fisheries Authority with 150 large rainbow trout in its metro lakes program. Try for rainbow trout, Murray cod or redfin from the small jetty on the Lake Trail; a daily bag limit of five trout applies, only two over 35 cm. The lake is also used for canoeing, kayaking and sailing (no powered boats), and a 6 km trail network includes a Lake Trail all the way around the lake. The Dragonfly Picnic Area has a playground, an observation tower, free electric barbecues, picnic tables and toilets. Dogs must be on a leash except in the off-leash area.
Facts checked against the venue's own website on 23 October 2026.
